severe constricting paroxysmal thoracic pain in the chest,often radiating from the precordium to the shoulder particularly the left and down the arm,accompained by feeling of suffocation and impending death. It is most often due to ischemia of myocardium and heart muscle usually caused by coronary disease and may aggravate by effort or excitement.
