Pectin
Overview
Pectin is a homosaccharide polymer of sugar acids of fruit or a purified carbohydrate product obtained from the dilute acid extract of the inner portion of the rind of citrus fruits or from apple pomace. Mainly it contains partially methoxylated poygalacturonic acids. It acts as a protective in the treatment of diarrohea. Pectin is also used as an emulsifying agent in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
