    Herb's Description

    Ocimum basilicum Linn.. An erect branching herb 0.6-0.9 m high, glabrous or more or less hispidly pubescent. Stems and branches green or sometimes purplish. Leaves 2.5-5 err or more long, ovate, acute, entire or more or less toothed or lobed; base cuneate, entire, petiole 1.3-2.5 cm long. Whorls densely racemose, the termina raceme usually much longer than the lateral ones; bracts stalked, shorter thar the calyx, ovate, acute. Calyx 5 mm long, enlarging in fruit, very shortly pedicellec lower lip with the 2 central teeth longer than the rounded upper lip. Corolla 8-13 mm long, white, pink or purplish, glabrous or variously pubescent. Stamens slightly exerted, upper filaments toothed at the base. Nutlets about 2 mm lone ellipsoid, black and pitted
