Herb's Description
Rheum emodi Wall. ex Meissn.. A stout herb, 1.5-3 m in height. Radical leaves fong-petioled, very large, often 60 cm in diameter, orbicular or broadly ovate, cordate. Flowers small, dark purple or pale-red, in tall axillary panicles(173). Roots very stout. Drug Rhubarb comprises round or flat pieces, shape cylindrical, surface smooth, firm, non-shrunken and bright yellow. Fracture is irregular and granular.

Contra-indicated in weak and feeble indivisuals,particularly children and old age.Constant use can cause decreased sensitivity of the intestinal mucosa,abdominal colic,flatulence,watery diarrhoea,weight loss etc.Should not be given to patients already suffering from or having symptoms of appendicitis,severe intestinal obstructions or abdominal pain of unknown etiology or to patients with tendency to gout,rheumatism,epilepsy or any uric acid disease.
