    Melia azadarach Linn.. A moderate sized deciduous tree, 9-12 m high. Bark dark grey with shallow longitudinal furrows; leaves bi- or occasionally tripinnate; leaflets ovate or lanceolate; serrate; flowers lilac, fragrant, in axillary panicles; fruit an ellipsoid globose drupe with 4-5 seeds

    In large doses fruit may cause severe irritation,nervous symptoms and fatty degeneration of the liver and kidneys.Toxicity is due to resinous fraction.Ripe fruits are more poisonous than green ones.A lethal dose for a 25 Kg dog is said to be 150 gm fruit.Leaves decoction may cause burning of mouth,oliguria,hematemesis,lethargy and occasionally death.
