Herb's Description
Ficus carica Linn.. Close similarity with Ficus palmata and is perhaps not significantly distinct. A shrub or smali deciduous tree, branchlets and underside of leaves pubascent or tomentose. Leaves cordate, more or less deeply lobed, lobes obtuse, blade 10-20, petiole 5-7.5 cm long, upperside rough. The tree is dioecious that is some trees have elongated receptacles with male and gall flowers while others have shortly pyriform, nearly globose receptacles, containing only female flowers. The leaves in both sexes are the same, but the difference in the shape of receptacles and flowers is so great, that at one time they were regarded as distinct genera or species ih? male tree being called caprificus. The receptacles of both sexes lengthen out into a stalk, at the base of which are the membranous bracts'24'. The fruit of Ficus carica, like those of other species of Ficus, is a syconium - a fleshy hollow receptacle with a narrow aperture at the tip and numerous small flowers, male, female and gall types, lining the inner surface
