    Herb's Description

    Inula racemosa Hook. A stout herb, upto 5 ft. tall. Leaves leathery, rough above, densely hairy beneath, toothed. Flower heads many, yellow, in. racemes. Achenes slender, with reddish pappus'150'. Roots are 10-15 cm long and upto 2 cm in diameter. Dry roots are brownish-grey in colour. Fresh roots are flexible but on drying they become horny and hard, breaking with short smooth fracture. Freshly broken surface of dry root is pale brown but turns brownish-grey on keeping. In old root a part of the vascular cylinder sometimes decays in the centre and in such cases the roots become hollow
