Herb's Description
Pinus roxburghii Sargent.. Evergreen tree, moderate to fast growth up to 60 to 100 feet tall (18-30 m); red brown bark; short lived needles, in 3s, 8 to 13 inches long (20-32 cm). The flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and are pollinated by Wind. The plant not is self-fertile.A large tree, bark 2.5-5 cm thick, cut by deep fissures into irregular plates; branches whorled; leaves in bundles of three, 23-30 cm long, bright green, each bundle surrounded at the base by a persistent sheath of bud-scales 1.3-2.5 cm long. Male catkins 13 mm long. Female cones 10-20 cm long, 7.5-12.5 cm diam; scales very thick and woody with a pyramidal pointed or recurved beak. Seed 7.5 mm long with a long thin membranous wing, cotyledons 10-14(24>. Oleoresin (Behroza) is obtained from different species of Pinus.
