Herb's Description
Sodium borate. It occurs as a natural (mineral) deposit. As crude borax found in masses by evaporation of water on shores of dried lakes and from the mud of lakes surrounded by hills. It is purified by dissolving in water, straining through cloth, evaporating to dryness and crystallizing. Composed of boric acid and soda, exist as impure saline encrustation of dirty-white colour'4'. Borax has the approximate composition of disodium octaborate tetrahydrate (Na2O, 4B2O3, 4H2O). The material is produced by spray drying mixtures of borax and boric acid.
