Herb's Description
Vernonia anthelmintica Willd. Annual erect, leafy, stems 60-90 cm high, branched, pubescent. Leaves lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, acute, coarsely serrate. Heads 1.3-2 cm diameter, sub-corymbose, many flowered (about 40). Outer involucral bracts linear, hairy, herbaceous; intermediate bracts with herbaceous hairy tips, linear, acute or sub-acute; inner-most bracts usually the longest, linear, sub-acute, scarious. Often tipped with purple. Pappus reddish, the exterior row very short. Achenes 4.5-6 mm long(21). Black or dark brown, cuneate at the base, and seated on a glabrous sessile ring, becoming broader, whitish scattered hairs and marked with 10 or 12 longitudinal ribs. Seed one, small, oily, of a brown or dark colour and conforming with the fruit
